The Shield Master (SM) is a custom build I created (and is still in progress) which is mainly as a defense and run n' gun styled character. His primary weapon is the Shield Gun. There are two ways to do this build, one being Warrior (Weapon Master Skills) and the other being Paladin (Medic Master Skills).
1. Basics
The SM, like stated before, uses the Shield Gun (SG). Why use the most basic of all weapons? It's because of how powerful the SG is. The SM requires both timing and dodging skills, along with being able to quickly aim.
-First off, SMs obviously cannot stay behind a bunker and kill. If you want to do that, become a Weapon Master.
-The melee (prim-fire) of the SG is your only attack in the battlefield. It is a very powerful weapon when used correctly. Run into your enemies with a full charge to instantly kill them (or in a few hits). After you collide, hold the prim-fire to keep on attacking until the monster dies.
-The shield (alt-fire) of the SG is your only defense in the battlefield. Use it when enemies that fire energy shots are at a distance. THE SHIELD DOES NOT PROTECT FROM EXPLOSIVE OR BULLET BASED WEAPONS! (At least I think.)
-As with a Weapon Master, Third-Person View (F4) is a great thing to have, espically since you do not need to aim up or down.
-Timing is essential to killing with the SG. Make sure you start charging right before you collide with your enemy.
-A large weakness to the SM is that the SG does not have a distance attack. This means gasbags and flying monsters will be a pain to kill, so I suggest collecting a Lightning Gun or a Sniper Rifle.
2. Skills and Classes to use for this build.
Any Class Skills:
CounterShove: When damaged, the momentum of the attack is deflected on the attacker.
Retaliation: Like CounterShove, but deflects damage instead of momentum .
QuickFoot: Increases your speed.
Weapon Master (Warrior)
Vampirism: Heals you for 5% damage dealt per level.
Advanced Damage Bonus: Increases damage by 1% per level.
Resupply: Increases ammo by 1% per level every 3 seconds.
Regeneration: Heals you 1 health per second per level.
Medic Master (Paladin)
Loaded Medic: Allows you to generate a Medic Gun of Infinity. Levels 2 and 3 allow you to heal 200 and 250 max health respectively.
[You only need Level 1 IMO, since the SG doesn't heal much (16 on a full charge, 4 on auto)]
Advanced Damage Reduction: Increases Damage Reduction by 4% per level, which effects total Damage Reduction.
3. A Level 31 Build (300 points)
[(P) = Paladin Build (Medic)]
[(W) = Warrior Build (Weapon)]
105 - Speed Bonus
70 - Retaliation Lv 4
(P) 3 - Loaded Medic Lv 1
(P) 100 - Damage Reduction
(P) 15 - CounterShove Lv1
(P) Save 7 for CounterShove Lv2
(W) 25 - Vampirism Lv5
(W) 35 - Damage Bonus
(W) 50 - Ammo Bonus
(W) 15 - Resupply Lv1
*This is just an example build, and hasn't been tested. Use it as a guide to create your own SM.
4. Other notes
-Out of all the monsters within this server, the Raptors are the most dangerous to a SM. It's either kill first or be killed. I prefer avoiding them.
-For using a Paladin Build (Medic), you can either have an infinite shield with a low healing ability or have a shield and a healing MP5. I prefer having the MP5 for healing, so I don't have to wait behind a bunker for too long.
-Still trying to think if Resupply affects the Shield Gun's energy regeneration (the one used for the shield). If anyone knows, tell me.
Comments and Questions are greatly appreciated.
Shield Master Build
It sounds interesting, but at wave 10+ do you really think you could survive?
Any here are some thoughts. Maybe make him more like a ninja then someone who just uses the shield gun. There are at least two mutators that you would want to take a look at.
There is the stunt man mutator available at FHI.
Stunt Man gives the player new moves (dive, superjump, hover, glue, slomo and rage) plus a bunch of new slomo weapons including 6 Kung Fu moves and a Pipe melee weapon. Unlimited walldodges and jump boosts mean you can pull off some amazing moves around maps, especially when combined with slomo, superjump and dive. Version 2 features the Glue Mode, which enables players to move on any surface regardless of gravity, and Kung Fu, with a variety of moves to smack your opponent down. A small but fun mutator!

There is also the Kakutou2k4 mutator that has some bugs.
For those who don't know or remember, Kakutou was a mutator for both UT and UT2003 that allowed the basic characters, with no new animation files, do kungfu moves, punches, kicks, jump kicks, walldodge kicks etc, in any game type.
Only problem is that it currently replaces the shieldgun, although I'm sure you can make it replace the assualt rifle.

Going higher than wave 10 is harder (having to deal with titans), but still beatable. Fighting titans with the shield gun is easy so long as you have no more than 5 of them targeting you at once. Circle them and keep bashing them with the gun. The only problem with this build (which I'm still trying to find out how to fix) is how to deal with a 1 versus 100 situation, which commonly happens in wave 15. Ultima would help here, but that would involve you dying.
The stunt man mutator looks really cool. I'm going to try it out.

Really not too much of a problem if you have Power Jump, Quickfoot, and Speed combo. If they are too high to reach even with that, swap to the MP5 and take them out from a distance, or let an ally focus on the gasbags while you take down the ground enemies.SystemError wrote:Warlords & gasbags
Just tested it some more... does still have a few problems to solve and a few new helpful tips.
-Fighting Titans with the SG is just like jumping off of the grand canyon. I prefer to use MP5 when fighting these guys, but other than that Titans are too powerful for the SG.
-Reflecting SG is so damn useful against Queens and anything that uses energy based weapons. Had about 100 queens on my local server that I run for INV RPG training and killed them all, taking only 650 hp in damage (of course, I healed with my MP5 when I got too low).
-Those razorflies cannot be killed by the SG. Maybe this is just me, but I can't kill them with the SG. Use the MP5 on them.
-Make sure that you are always dashing. If you don't dash, you'll die quickly. Dash into an enemy, then dash away while using the SG as soon as you touch, and repeat on another enemy.

For razorflies, you have to jump above them and point the sg down.
A fun thing to do when killing titans is to jump on top of them. If there's a big group of them, you'll get yourself killed, but it's worth it.
And why not use an adren master for shield master? High adrenaline, triple, globe, and a SG of energy or a vorpal sg would give you a pretty good chance at prolonged survival.

Vorpal SG? One time I had a vorpal shock, and was shooting secondary shock balls. One hit the ceiling when titans did that jump thing, and I hit the ceiling right next to it, and I vorpaled myself. NO CONTACT VORPAL WEAPONS.
