Well, the power connector isn't really an issue. This comes with every new card I've seen, It's the 2nd from the left.
Power is a huge issue, However there becoming increasingly expensive to buy one that's considered "decent". I'll take a look later and see what I can find for a reasonable price.

yeah, i only have the adapter thing on the left to plug in my monitor. the one second from the left didn't come with my card, and it didn't say it should on the box. and there's nowhere on the card that it could connect to anyway. but later today i'm gonna get a picture up and maybe that'll make it a bit easier....

So basically what your saying is... the card you have doesn't need the pci-e power connector? The black connector is what you would plug into the video card, and there are two variants a 6 pin one and a rarer ( almost non-existent) 8 pin version.
Gotta love retard standards that change every week :P.

What I can tell from the pictures on newegg for the VisionTek hd2600 pro pci-e that it does not have any external power supply connectors. It sounds like a driver problem not a power supply one at the moment. Make sure you properly remove any old drivers and reboot before installing the new ones. If you go to VisionTek's driver download page at the bottom under the notes there is some information and a driver removal tool you can try. It couldn't hurt to look into getting a new power supply though.

i might try that driver removal program...but i've tried removing the old drivers like...10 times already. and i read a couple of places that those programs don't help the error that they get...
and there must be something to do with the power cause if i don't plug anything into it , then it doesn't work.

If you don't plug it in, It won't boot at all. The only thing that will display is a message that the power connector is not correctly installed. Even before it loads the bios. Atleast that is how it's supposed to work, both from my experience and reading the manuals.noxiousCaitSith wrote:i might try that driver removal program...but i've tried removing the old drivers like...10 times already. and i read a couple of places that those programs don't help the error that they get...

So if you can get the system to boot and load windows It's definitely a software issue. What card are you upgrading from and which are you upgrading too? If it's a nvidia <=> Ati change there maybe some residual stuff even after uninstalling their drivers.

i'm upgrading from ati x300 128MB which is crap to ati HD 2600 pro 512MB which hopefully is decent.
so yeah, no change from nvidia to ati.
i may just buy a power supply cause people are saying i should anyway.
i have the specs of the power supply there just in case that helps
