yeah, i've been looking around the net and usually the best options are on clubit which is where i bought most of my stuff. they have lots of rebates  .

and now i'm looking for a HSF so any suggestions? i dunno if i plan on upping the voltage...i'd rather not, so i don't think i'll be needing a really expensive heatsink.

I got the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro, however I am not sure if I can recommend it yet.

I am having an issue where the cpu fan fail warning tone sounds on startup if I have it enabled in BIOS. When I was having the issue, I opened my case and found my fan does not kick on until about 3 seconds after the computer is booting.

Once I disabled the fan warning, I don't get it on boot, but when I wake up the computer from standby, it sounds for about 4 seconds. Very annoying, and I worry with my warning system off :blackeye:

I am not sure of the exact issue, but I suspect it.

Overclocking quad cores isn't the same as dual cores. They can produce a ton of heat. If you wonder why, the quad cores are two dual cores stitched together. Therefore your overclocking 2 processors and given such a small surface area, proper cooling is a large factor. 45nm will alievate this as it doesn't draw, and therefore dissipate as much power as the 65nm brethren do.

As far as the freezer is concerned, Not sure if that is the best idea. It will probably be sufficient for dual core, highly overclocked quads is probably pushing it.

after much reading of reviews i decided to get this one:
zerotherm btf90

it's on sale now and after the rebate it will be about $31. they did tests on this at anandtech.com and it performed pretty well against the more expensive HSFs. and it's a smaller fan...and it's shaped like a butterfly...haha. as long as it does the job. and it's supposed to be pretty quiet.
