Wow. You remember the early days of the Internet or rather the days before the Internet, back when folks would dial directly into unnetworked computers located in people's basements.
I was a heavy duty BBSer back in the day. My family started with the awful Prodigy dialup service, then we dumped that and I started dialing into local BBSes. I still remember playing Global Wars (Risk) and Trade Wars over a 2400 baud modem in a Tandy 1000.
Yes I remember most of that. I've been to quite a few tech shows over the years and seen tech come and go. Prodigy sucked, ad based service that you paid for? No way. Took forever to update a page because of the ads with something like a third of the screen that wasn't ads. I used GEnie which had the best multiplayer games. I was a beta tester for AOLs original internet service. It was a seperate service and said nothing about AOL. They allowed me to use it for free for some time and when they rolled it into AOL they let me use that for free as well. AOLs numbers were less than 100,000 back then and was thought of as a mac service. Wasted alot of time just playing with new crap.
I remember Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, fun game. Do you remember the hint book came with a yellow highlighter for uncovering clues in the hint book?

I don't remember the hint book, but I wore the Don't Panic pin on a jacket for several years until it busted. Do you remember typing the command to read footnotes and then going through all of the footnotes, eventually stumbling upon a comment, "Isn't it fun reading through all of these footnotes?" I remember laughing my ass off when I came upon that.

Oh, right, the pin! And the fluff of lint actually came in the box. I seem to recall the easter egg comment too...
