ONS Floodgate XL RC2

Here's a specific forum for discussing potential maps, maps that need a vacation and optimizations and modifications for better playability.

Looks good Sanch3z. The only minor things I noticed are the antiportal that's still sticking out a bit (shown by the yellow ellipse in the pic below). You could just move it to the left a bit so it's into the cliff face as well. I know the building has some hollow space there that it would be crossing, but that's not playable/reachable area. Or just shorten it, as the one on the other side will prevent the other side of the map from being rendered anyway and players probably wont go in that little nook too often. The other two areas I marked with the blue rectangles at the bases are just areas where the texture under the arches differ from the rest. One archway at each base is textured with the "rock wall" pattern, while the rest of the archways have the more solid texture. As I said, minor stuff. Looks about ready for release.

thanks BrainPan, I will take care of the things you mentioned :) There is also 1 glaring problem in Beta 4 that someone else pointed out: The tentacle static meshes(worm looking things) were ripped from UT3 and are very high poly(it takes alot of work to render them). I guess this causes severe fps drops in some spots of the map when playing with alot of people. There are low poly versions of the tentacles which will be taking the place of the high poly ones in the next version.

Speaking of the next version, WailofSuicide is working on some tweaks to the EONS vehicles. Plus I would like a modded spidermine gun for this map which Wail may, or may not be working on. I am trying to make it but am not very good with uscript.The "modded" spidermine gun would be a timed single pickup, like a superweapon, but it would spawn at match start and respawn every 60 seconds. Throughout the years I have heard tons of complaints about spidermine spam. I think this gun is a worthy and enjoyable weapon and the mod to it mentioned above would be a good thing.

The next version will be Release Candidate 1 and should be 99.9% final product. I have started on another ONS map but that will be a little ways off.

Since DW has helped me out a ton with making this a good map I would like to offer you the option of me putting a DW banner or advertisement in the map. Plus DW is the #1 place to play ONS in NA.... If you are interested I will need a banner, picture that is 256X256 :thumbright:

Looking good! :) We turned a bunch of bots loose on it last night, pathing seemed to work well.

I was wondering about the tentacles and those caps you placed on the tops of the columns. Good to know there's low poly versions of the tentacles..anything along the optimization front is good. Textures or highlights on the caps just looks a little off...can't put a finger on it, just feel they look a bit out of place. I think the map looked fine without them, but that's just my personal preference poking through. :D

We would be very happy indeed to have a banner placement in the map! Thank you! What format would you prefer for the file? bitmap? JPEG? Let me know...I'll email you once I know what flavor of file you'd like.

JPEG will be fine. Between DW and Titan Onslaught I have gotten an abundance of feedback/help so my idea is to put the DW banner at red core, making it the DW core, and a Titan banner at blue core = Titan core.

I've been buried the last week....real life and otherwise. If you want to get the final out, then go ahead....Or...I'm hoping that I'll have some time later today to send ya something. I'm anxious to see Floodgate on SV! Mega apologies for dragging this out...things are getting back on track and I'm not pulling my hair out anymore!

no worries KarmaKat :ssmile: I'm not in a huge rush to make a final version. I think WailofSuicide is working on some EONS updates also.

RC2 available in first post. This map is mostly complete, it just needs some serious online play. I will be paying attention to any feedback on possible improvements. This is the last version before final which will be in a month or so.
