First the suggestion: would it be possible to give player monster summons a unique skin? I know they have a red ring and blue awareness meter, but sometimes this gets lost in the crowd of dozens of monsters. A flashy and unique skin might make it easier not to waste ammo on these guys.
Now the question: does anyone know if there's a mod to allow the in-game MP3 player to play VBR files? I tried Googling for it but didn't find anything.
Thanks.
Suggestion and a question
I wouldn't say flashy, but a unique skin for a player monster would definatly give the game a little extra. I'm not sure how hard that would be to code though, as I have no idea how to code UT XD

Yes, however we'd have to make a unique skin for every monster that can be summoned.Scumsberg wrote:First the suggestion: would it be possible to give player monster summons a unique skin? I thought the in-game music player only played .ogg files. I wouldn't bother with it anyways, as I just use foobar for all my music playing needs.
It might be possible to skin them relatively easily if you rip the files and apply some colour/texture type filters in Photoshop/Paint Shop Pro or equivalent. I only have GIMP and I'm very amateur with it, so I'm not necessarily volunteering, but if anyone does that would be awesome and pretty useful I think.
The player plays MP3s but only in CBR. I'm not sure why they did that when the game was released in 04, well after VBR came onto the scene. Oh well, I'll just use Winamp. Thanks.

If someone gives me the texture of one of them then I can have a go. I have photoshop CS3 and access to a tablet but ... never retexured a skin before so I couldn't promise anything.

Relatively easily, sure. I know I wouldn't be happy with that though.Scumsberg wrote:It might be possible to skin them relatively easily if you rip the files and apply some colour/texture type filters in Photoshop/Paint Shop Pro or equivalent. Even if you were successful in making UT capable of reading VBR files, I doubt that others will be able to hear it. Til this day I still haven't found a way to force .ogg songs to be played in other people's computers if they do not have it downloaded as if this was UT99.Scumsberg wrote:Now the question: does anyone know if there's a mod to allow the in-game MP3 player to play VBR files? So if the people want to hear the custom music, they'll have to download the songs off the web on their own time rather than depending on the redirect.
The difference between successful people from others is
not in the lack of strength,
not in the lack of knowledge,
but rather in the lack of will.

Ant, he's talking about UT2004's built-in music player, not map music.
Never heard of such thing other than the F11 playlist. Wouldn't you just use an external program for that?

The F11 "playlist" is the player - you can add MP3s and create custom playlists with it. I liked it because I didn't need to alt tab and it has a volume control, but no VBR support isn't gunna cut it. Winamp to the rescue!
Thanks again.
