I've been having this problem for a couple weeks now. About one in every five games, while we're switching to another map and I'm on the loading screen, I get a "Critical Error" and my ut2004 closes automatically. When I open up ut2004 again and rejoin the server though, I see that the server says my character is still on, but I'm just sitting there, afk and the server detects me as an imposter, turning my name into something like 57981.
Has anyone else been having an issue like this and if they have, have they found a way to fix this?
UT2004 crashing every few games
Crashing in between maps usually occur during garbage collection.
Did you capture any logs in UT2004/system/ut2004.log file? The critical lines at the end usually tells you what went wrong.
If you want to play it safer, you can always disconnect from the server and join from the server browser, again.
