We need mappers, DESPARATELY!

Here's a specific forum for discussing potential maps, maps that need a vacation and optimizations and modifications for better playability.

OK guys, we have 10 months (maybe more) until 2k7 comes out. I have no new ONS maps to offer you. The cupboards are bare.

I've been working with Hornet to compile a list of mps that have potential, but need work before they can see the light of day. Some of the changes are simple. Some of the maps need a complete makeover.

I'm looking for people willing to have at these maps and try to make them work for the server. They do not need to be masterpieces, but they do need to be suitble for 32p play. Titan has a very nice list (looking in my pile of papers for link) of key ingredients for a good 32p map. That's a start. And maybe Urtho will be kind enough to wander in here for some specific dvice as well.

Hopefully tomorrow night I will be able to get the list compiled and publish it here. But in the mean time, if there are any brave souls out there willing to pick up the gauntlet, let us know so we know what kind of resources we are looking at.

Thanks,

Rich (TW)

Count me in. I have been looking to get back into it. I have my "Mastering Unreal Technology" book right by the computer. ;)

I believe this page is the one you're looking for:

Building a Sucessful Large-Scale Map
http://outpt.co.uk/art003.php

For any mappers, this thread on Titan's forum should also be a wealth of valuable links and ideas:

A Comprehensive Guide to UT Mapping
http://ut2004.titaninternet.co.uk/forum ... php?t=5013
And maybe Urtho will be kind enough to wander in here for some specific advice as well.
Of course.

..hum where did it I read that before.. long time ago .. well and very helpfull urtho indeed very basic rules -- What i think its very very important aside of the node layout of course is the Map Optimization in General when we talk about make it 'good' for 32 peeps , server and client side .. Thanks for the links- :) - Sometime i added more power to the base lockers on dreamus cuz the lockers where yelling for that .. and since it is fun spam map with the CN layout a couple of more fast vehicles- Bad idea for such a small map but just wanted tomake it really really spammy!! for hell sakes .. (jk) well the base weapon lockers at the Core Node are still worthless and with the Cn Layout you endup with 16 guys spamming the hell out of 16 others trying to get out of the base with a linkgun and granades - :pukeright: hum .. so when you get to that point you better pick a good spot and start healing your Core.-

Toxic,

I'm all up for improving map play. Once you post a link up here I'll probably call two or three of them for myself and get cracking on them. A lot of the maps that have shown up on the server here and there could probably be fixed up with a day or two's effort.

I've got one map that I'm working on currently that could probably be in a playable state within a week or two (depending on work and other circumstances). It won't be "finished" by any means, but at least it'd be playable and I could add the polish in subsequent versions.

Thanks for weighing in guys. I really appreciate it, and I know all the people who play here will too. I'll probably get that list tomorrow, and some procedures that I think will be able to help us be more efficient with this process.

I can tell you that you will get plenty of praise from the regulars for making the maps work better. I'll make sure everyone knows of your efforts. People like playing new maps, and with your guys' help, I know we can make some mediocre maps very good and very playable.
