IMO the maps take too long to play.

right now we're up around an hour per level. waves 1-7 take 20 mins. These are the waves that server newbies can play effectively. after that, they die a few secs or a min in, and sit for "a while" waiting to die again.

IMO the level time should be tweaked down to about :30 max. this would result in a larger variety of maps being played, noobs not getting frustrated with dying so easily (cuz waves start fast), and more importantly, it's not such an investment to play. If i have an hr or so of free time, i don't bother joining cuz i know it'll be at LEAST 2hrs to get a full map in.

anyone else?

I believe the issue could be addressed with monster manager. However IIRC there was a problem with Luci and im unsure if the super boss mutator fixed it.

how you mean? isn't monster manager for dealing with different types of monsters? i mean it's really a matter of reducing monsters per wave, specially in the 2nd half waves. (i won't be heartbroken if i only score 1500/map)

I believe there is some sort of limit on the amount of monsters available at anyone time during a wave. If we specified 200 monsters per wave and we can only have 10 playing at one time it would take a long time for those monsters to be depleted. Sure we could lower the total monsters and be done with it. However there is a side issue of available XP per map, and AMs need a massive amount of monsters to do their work.

Monster Manager has a flaw . It doesn't score monster with UT style weapons correctly . Other then that it looks like a good program . So you either loose the points for say smith's and rocket nali's and such or you just loose them from the lineup.

He promised a upgrade to adress the issue. That was over 6 months' ago.

My original post was not about monster manager, the monsters themselves, or what kind of enemies are on the map . . . it's about taking more than an hour to play a map.

granted changing monsters like i said in the other thread could affect the time, the easier solution is reducing the number of monsters per level.

so to clarify the question, who else thinks it takes too long to play a map? I could come and bitch all day but if i'm the only one, who cares?

It is a tough thing to work with right now with the way the server is set up. (And I am not bitching Wraith, just stating my opinion ;) I am not looking for changes.)

The other weekend, Wraith had added more monsters. Bomzin and I were playing with 3-4 noobs. It took forever to get through a level, and this was a fish in the barrel level.

So, from what I understand Wraith lowered the number back down.

Last night we were playing and there were 7-8 DWs and SVAs who are all pretty powerful. Then people were complaining that the waves were going too quickly.

The problem is is that some maps are set up for some roles and other maps are set up for other ones. And depending on how many and who is in the server you will get a different playing experience. I am not sure what you can do about it.

I know on the old Monster Assult server, the monsters adjusted to the skill level of the lowest player in the map. However, if a noob joined and I was at level 170 then I could play the entire assult without dieing.

too quickly? or quicker than expected? if the number of raptors on 9 (for example) is cut from 300 to 200 with a max raised from 10 to 20 at a time, then yes it will go MUCH quicker . . . if nobody was expecting that kinda change, yeah it'd feel fast.

I think that it was just a perception issue. If you are used to playing with noobs and each wave taking 10 mins, then switch to playing with l33t (always wanted to write that...) players and each wave taking 2 mins, there is quite the contrast in playing styles.

Whatever you did Wraith to lower the time is good .

Is it possible to up the monster count in that same time frame ?
