Has anyone checked out trueSpace?

It's a FREE 3-d modeling tool - here's the link:

trueSpace 7 Introduction

Microsoft bought out the company, Caligari Corp., AND IS OFFERING trueSpace FOR FREE. Gee - hard to believe that MS would do such a thing - trying to compete with Google or something... ;)

I downloaded/installed it a week ago, just haven't had time to play around with it yet. The have tutorials and manual for download also.

Might be helpful for those who want to get into modeling...

i go to school for this kind of thing...?

I'm bumping this thread because, well, I want to.

I know there have to be some more talented people out there who enjoyed the various things that our server did for Halloween. So now I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you've got 3D modelling skills, 2D art skills (for textures, icons, and such), or almost anything else, reply to this thread or send me a private message.

Some things in particular that I may be looking for:

-Emitters. If you've played around inside UnrealEd you may have created some cool looking emitters. I'm always on the lookout for more emitters to use for monsters, players, levels... Pretty much everything you can think of. Main thing to consider here is the uniqueness of the emitter - A torch flame emitter is not very useful because there are tons already out there. A distinctive fireball emitter for a monster's attack, on the other hand, could be useful.

-Sounds. If you have any sound effects (which you legally have permission to use - Not stuff ripped from other games), I'm always looking for more. In particular think "Pick Up" and "Activate" or "Attack/Firing" style sound effects (not environmental sorts of sound effects like bird calls and street noise).

Emitters ehh??

hehe, I can stir some pretty FX for you >:)

Is there anything else you're looking for other than unique fireballs??

Well, I wasn't really saying I was specifically looking for fireballs. I was just trying to give a general example of something that would be cool. Anything that could be used as a protectile is useful.
At this time in particular what I am looking for is anything that looks like a spell effect - Something kind of runic / arcane looking. If you have Guild Wars - the effects that trigger on your character when using spells are mainly what I am thinking of.

Those that are seeking for 3D modeling programs for free ... check out Google Sketchup at this link:
http://sketchup.google.com/

I've just started today so I'm still new to this program, but this is a start ^.^

I hear that you can...

I'm still working on my first mesh so I can't say for sure.

I know the "Pro" version of Sketchup can export to .obj format, which 3DSMax can open and then export to .ase, which can be imported by the UT2004 editor. I am not sure about the free version, although I think it would be a safe assumption that Sketchup Pro can open .skp (Sketchup) files.

I'm still working on getting my studio set back up, but when I do I'll see if I can come up with some sound effects. I have some analog synths that can be coerced into making some cool noises.
