UT3 Requirements

Game hardware requirements always seem funny to me. The minimum seems low to me. 512megs of RAM on any CPU is pretty broad spectrum of users. You also have to assume they're talking about a Pentium 4 at that speed because every AMD 64 chip is rated higher than that. I think most people are fine with what they are running. You want all the bells and whistles your going to have to upgrade. Video card mini is very low.
Minimum is basically saying you can run the game. You won't be happy with it at 640x480 on Low at 25FPS.

I disagree on what the minimum requirements will get you but we'll just have to wait and see. I've already played a UT3 CTF mod level. It seems you can just disable some eye candy like always and get decent game play. A Radeon 9600 is a decent card for it's time but the nVidia 6200 using system memory is a very low requirement. A few websites have said that the Radeon chips do better on the UT3 engine so I'm not suprised they're recommended video card favors such a low 1300. We'll just have to wait and see. I would worry more about how much fun the game is before I bought anything to run it.
The very least video card I would buy at this point is an 8800 GTS 320. Huge gap between this and the next lower chip. Save up a little more and don't waste your money on anything less.
I'm running Vista64 without any driver issues.

WOW
I will definitely wait for the demo now before buying anything.
The minimum requirements are under what I have. I have a 2.4 GHz Athlon 64, 2GB of performance DDR400, and a Radeon 9800 Pro
I am thinking from the screens that it will be like zeus said - crappy frames on low res - but we'll see.
I will upgrade at some point, but if I can get by until prices drop just a bit more, I could get a good deal. I am already thinking about buying it part by part when I see amazing deals Like zeus suggested. I am going to stop into Fry's when I pass it now =P
Where's the demo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow! that would be a great class in a high school. Fill the server during the day with my students and track their skill over a semester. Ha that would never fly with a principal. Where would it go in the curriculum. Great thought though. :cheers:d2frob wrote:You should teach Monster Mash 101

No shame, no dishonor, will run away to fight another day!
ACY
Tell the principal the it would be a good experience for the kids in learning and here's why:
A.) How to work together to achieve a common goal.
B.) How decisions made early on in a players life, affect your playing down the road in regards to rpg.
C.) Learning to communicate both verbally and vocally in a group setting.
D.) Hand/Eye coordination skills.
E.) Concentration skills will be improved, i.e. staying focused on what your doing.
F.) Memorization of past mistakes and how it can improve your future goals.

My school used to have UT99 set up in one of the suites so you can play in a lan for like 50p or something, however i hadn't got into UT then. Shame they don't do it now so i can go kick some ass ^^
PS playing games was scientifically proven to improve eyesight acy soo demand a ut class now :P

Interesting analysis; I hadn't put two-and-two together to reach that conclusion--that a single thread does the bulk of the work.ToxicWaste wrote:
What these specs tell me is that the main game thread is still doing the bulk of the work, and you probably will not get away with a low clocked dual core (i.e. 1.6 or 1.8). And from a client perspective, a quad core is useless unless you are running a bunch of stuff in the background.
I saw that part about the x1300 and said, "Wow, either they must have meant an x1900 or it will scream on my x800xt."
When they list those CPU speeds, I'm always a little confused about whether they are referring to Pentium 4 speeds or Athlon 64 speeds because a 2.2 Ghz Athlon is much more powerful than a 2.2 Ghz Pentium 4, as I understand it. I can crank my Opteron 148 up to 2.75 Ghz, which must be about the equivalent of a 3.8 Ghz Pentium. Perhaps I'll be fine with my current CPU and will only need to buy a x1950 Pro.

I had a funny feeling that this would prove to be the case...ACY wrote:Looks like my cpu will do just fine and I can scrape by on my dual 7600 gt's until I can purcahse a better graphics card in the next year or so.
