how do you play online? cause when i tried it was just a bunch of servers with no one playing hardly and from what i can tell if you are the person who's running the server you pretty much have to create the entire game/story. or is there a set online gameplay mode? that's why i play fps's online...just join a game and kill people dead.

What about a Battlefield 2142 server ?! Thats the only game I really play apart from UT religiously.

Come to the Amia server, which is a partial role playing server. Open the Multiplayer menu and let it connect to Gamespy. Then find the "Role Play" servers list (might have to scroll down in the main list) and organize by number of players and then come to Amia. The server is often packed full with 75 players and rarely has fewer than 30 (because of the European contingent).noxiousCaitSith wrote:how do you play online? cause when i tried it was just a bunch of servers with no one playing hardly and from what i can tell if you are the person who's running the server you pretty much have to create the entire game/story. or is there a set online gameplay mode? that's why i play fps's online...just join a game and kill people dead.
Alternatively, you could just do a Direct Connect to their IP. Here's a link to the Amia forums:

My characters are Dagny Thunderthump (Dwarven Barbarian Cleric) and a brand new elven mage, Vanestra Veltro. (Maybe not the greatest names, but I'm not real creative.)
I wish I had discovered the Neverwinter Nights multiplayer when I first started playing the game. It's really something--D&D online! I think it's a better way to play than pen-and-paper.
So I got Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for my birthday, and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars with my video card. I figured I'd give an early weigh in here on my break:
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
I loaded it up last night and it is friggin' awesome. I have only played free-for-all multiplayer mode as of now, so more updates will be coming:
Likes:
1. Graphics are insanely good. When things explode, the heat rising from them makes the walls look wavy like in real life. There are papers and debris blowing around, etc. Maps seem very "alive."
2. Physics are realistic.
3. Very fast paced - keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time
4. Multiplayer is class-based. The more you kill, the more points you earn. The points increase your rank, as well as unlock more weapons and classes that you can select, like sniper, demolitions, and "create-a-class" where you can pick a weapon from each category. So for example, I could take the assault rifle for my main gun from the "assault" class, take a silenced pistol from recon class, flash grenades from demolitions class, and so on.
5. Flash grenades are crazy. You hit a room with that you can run in an waste everyone.
6. To do well you have to stop and aim down the sites. It helps to curb the noob factor of people easily dropping you from hip-shooting. Not a "spray & pray" shooter at all.
7. Classes each have distinct advantages, and you can change mid-game.
8. Picking up dropped enemy weapons is offered to you when you pass over them, which eliminated having to search the ground visually for them which often times leads to a fast death. This is esp. nice when you waste a high-level player, because you can get the high tech AK-47s, etc.
9 A HUGE LIKE is the fact that the engine has "bullet penetration." No longer will a wooden fence or weak brick wall save you. Last night a guy running away from me hid behind a oil drum and later a weak brick wall, and I shot my mg right through them and into him! :thumbright:
10 HOLY CRAP I ALMOST FORGET THE COOLEST THING - the Kill Cam. When you die, the game gives you a 3 second clip of your enemy killing you. It stops the "wtf how did i die" stuff that pops up in tactical games. It also prevents camping, because it gives the enemies position away, which makes everyone always on the move.
Dislikes:
- none really. the only thing that kinda sucks is that the very high level players have very high powered weapons. Obviously going to happen in a class-based xp style system, but on some maps I could barely move without getting sniped or obliterated by an AK. I'm sure once I'm there I won't complain though =) It's not a true dislike as you move up through the first ranks pretty quick.
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
This one I only played quickly (just to see the graphics) and only against bots on my computer.
Likes:
1. Interesting vehicles, weapons. There are these hover pack things, and they let you get onto high buildings and over obstacles.
2. Human ATVs are fast and fun.
3. Overall fast paced play is enjoyable.
Dislikes:
1. The early feel is kind of like battlefield 2142 and quake had a baby.
More to come!

"Dagny Thunderthump "
lol, thunderthump. that's a good name. i'm not good at the game, but i still enjoy playing it. even though i've only really played on single player mode.
i might try going to that server.
and as for a game recomendation...commander keen is pretty good imo. :bounce:

I played it COD4 briefly. Found it chaotic. Hard to tell where you are getting hit from. Got hit with like 17 bullets and kept going.
anyway, if someone wants to point me in the direction of a dedicated server download, I can have a look see.

Welcome to real warfare lol
On a side note the demo actually worked far better than UT3 did on my system. I can actually play this demo on full resolution on my 22 in monitor.
The weapons are awesome. Very realistic effects. The sniper rifles made me smile :cyclops:
I do think this will be in the top 3 of '08 for popular games

Yeah, once I realized the heavy machine guns could fire through the concrete walls I realized where they were coming from.
I think COD4 would be a great team based game with Vent!
