The players will be guinea pigs for a little bit yet. I haven't had the time to set-up the test server, but it will happen. We also have added an additional creature called a shrike, one is regular and the second variety of it is an advanced revision. Both creature do things that I haven't seen done anywhere else, but I haven't had the time to go on other servers either...

DW_ACY wrote:Please people calm down, what you don't all seem to unserstand is this used to be done on a test server before and then implemented into the main server. Well we no longer have use of the test server so all changes are now happening in real time. People this is the best server going thanks to the efforts of Wraith and the other programers. Please be patient and slow down on the grief. The server will be ironed out and your addiction can continue into oblivion.
Please don't think that because I feel some adjustments should be made is a back-handed attack on the server. I know this is a great server. It's the only one I play on.
But these are the forums and this is the place for these kinds of comments to be made. It's what forums are for. We shouldn't feel like we can't make suggestions or respond top these posts without hurting someone's feelings.
Obviously people have different feelings and interpretations about what is an improvement and what isn't. I'd hate to think people were discouraged from posting any sort of contrary opinion to avoid hurting someone's feelings or for fear that their thoughts might be interpreted as a slam on the server. If that were the case then there would be no need to have a forum at all. Just a bunch of stickies would suffice at that point.

DW_Wraith wrote:Acy is correct, that we don't have a test server, so we have to either do it live, or we can just stop all work on trying to bring variety to the server.... Sometimes in the process of trying to be creative, things don't turn out as planned, so please be patient.
We do have goals on how we want the new creatures to work, and sometimes things work as planned, then other times they go totally different from local play. The other day was the perfect example when the moles were nearly indestructable. There were 2 reasons for it, and while we try to do our best to plan on how something should work, it doesn't turn out that way. If its too difficult for you, wait a day or so and hopefully it will be fixed. We have had daily updates to the biobuds, and sometimes when you fix one thing, something else breaks, or the code doesnt work as planned. We had tried to make the creatures damage reduction calculated based on the number of players playing, so they would be harder on a full server vs one that was half full, but it didn't pan out in the first revision.
Anyhow, I just wanted to publicly thank Bio for all his work! Without him, things would be alot more boring.

Live testing is a great idea. You guys should keep in mind that live testing comes with live feedback. I don't think people were saying that the server sux, now. I think everyone just wants to put their 2 cents in.
We don't have access to DW's private forums so we rarely know what's in the planning or at what stage in implementation you guys are. As a result we offer feedback on what we experience. No harm there.
I don't want you to think your efforts (or those of anyone on your end) are under appreciated. It's a great server..glitches and all. I'm sure things will work out in the end.

Since we're on topic here what's up with the seekers that pull you into walls when they can't see you? It makes it impossible to maneuver into a position to attack them. So then you can't free yourself and something else shows up and smokes your ass.
Hmm, (this is Bio again)
I need some clarification on what you mean with the Seekers. They don't actually apply a constant attractor force to the player, just an initial impulse in their direction, so they should not be able to actually 'hold' you anywhere.... unless you are being attacked by a large group of them taking turns pulling you toward them. When you say they can't see you, do you mean they are trying to pull you through solid walls or just holes too small for you too fit through? Just curious so I can make some fixes if they are misbehaving :)
My experience is as follows: I was in the hall with adrenalin on Kitchen. One of the seekers started pulling me by the hall entrance next to the oven. I ducked around the corner back by the adren and he kept pulling me and held me in place. In fact I think 2 of them had me pulling in different directions because I couldn't move either direction. Then their buddy showed up. Luckily I was globing and managed to live. But it still sucked not being able to see your attacker or maneuver into a position to kill him. If I hadn't been globing I'd have died quickly.
Yes; it was a solid wall. No; he couldn't see me nor could I see him. It definitely wasn't an impulse (it was constant) and it continued until the wave ended (the wave was almost over when it happened). And it happened twice in the same game. Same location, same circumstances, same result, different wave.

Max iron legs and you will be good to go. They yank me around everywere and ironlegs helps 100 %.
I think the way they pinball ball you all over is fun as hell except for when they fire me off the map :colors:
I can't believe you wasted your points on Iron Legs. You should reset your character.

LOL don't listen to Nightmorph on this one. Just trust me on that.
What you should do (as should ANYBODY under level 100) is read the posts in these forums about building a good strong character. There is one about medics, one about AM's and one about WM's. They were posted some time ~Aug-Oct. Check 'em out.
In general it goes like this: Don't buy anything that everybody can buy (except for maybe awareness and quickfoot) until you have maxed out DB, Wep Speed, and all of your class-specific skills (i.e. loaded weps, loaded artifacts, vamp, etc.)
The key to the whole RPG thing is to do as much damage as quickly as possible. EVERYBODY I have EVER played with that spends points on stuff like iron legs, power jump, etc. before they max out the important stuff takes FOREVER to lvl.
If you focus on skills that increase your firepower you will lvl at least 2-3 times as fast as you would otherwise. AND you won't have to get 20k exp to increase the important skills because you got to lvl 150 withoutt maxing out DB or DR or something like that. It gets really annoying trying to get the 10k or 20k you need to add 10 pts of DB when you could have got the same 10 pts DB by earning only 4k exp. It's even more annoying to think about you could already your firepower maxed out if you hadn't spent points on other things.
Every point of damage you do gets you closer to leveling and ever power jump or reduced damage from crash landing gets you nothing. It is irrelevant if you live longer if you aren't doing maximum damage while you are alive. I know players that are currently lvl 150+ that still hide for most of the game on most maps because they were to weak to accomplish anything before dieing. It's okay to die EVERY wave as long as you do a shit-load of damage before you die.
Many players on this server take 6-12 months to reach lvl 150 when it could be accomplished in 3. IF you take my advice you will lvl quickly. If you don't then you will be calling for medics at lvl 150 and that's just embarassing.
Following this advice I got to lvl 300 in ~6 months. Yes I play a lot; but I'd still be lvl 200 if I wasted my points and played just as much. Other people that started at about the same time are still under lvl 200. Not so coincidentally those people spent points in the places I've advised you not to.

It seems the situation is getting better has some heavy test are performed to adjust the new monsters attributes like health, damage and damage reduction. So i feel better now.
Good work to everyone for making the DW server a better server.
