Is the hacker going to want to spend an hour of his time to try to bring the server down again? Possibly not. Changing the server's identity is worth a try.

Providing an ETA for the server's restoration is no less secure than reintroducing the server quietly. The hacker will find out when the server has become live sooner or later.

The admin has offered no guarantee that the server will be put back up at all. You could be wasting your time.

The hacker will spend however much time necessary to hack the server because he's pissed off.
Clearly spending an HOUR on hacking the server again Isn't hard in the least even from a new ip and name (stupid idea), since hes been hacking this server for damn near two weeks, which is when all the shit started.

The server doesn't HAVE to give anyone an estimated ETA of when the server may be put back online. If people can't be patient enough to wait for the server to come back up? oh well.

actually the server's staff dont have to report to us (users) regarding the issue but to protect out data... nevertheless, is considered responsible on their behalf in many western (actually in any) civilizations to provide feedback and not keep people in the dark. thats what pulp said. thats what i say. actually what pulp (and I) did was showing our interest on the matter and the future of the server, thats all. we didnt bug any admin, didnt flood the forums, didnt sent 200 emails each on the admin's inbox

Not displaying an ETA is intended. Personally I have a lot of things going on in real-life. The amount of time I can spend to fix things is variable (which leads to an unpredictable schedule). Setting an ETA will either disappoint people (when the patch comes in late), or disappoint people (when I overestimate).

If you desperately need an ETA, I guess I'll play it safe and overestimate. You can count on it by Easter.
