Do you think you'll play CTF heavily in UT3?

Do you think you'll play CTF heavily in UT3?

In UT 2004, today, few people still play CTF. However, in UT99, CTF was (and still is) THE game. At least it was THE team game. Having played a little UT 2004 CTF and Bombing Run I think I can understand why it hasn't done as well as Onslaught and is only a shadow of its former UT99 self in terms of popularity.

Based on what I've read of UT3, the "bigness" feel and many of the factors that turned the game into a shock primary and lightening gun hitscan game (translation--if you don't have great hitscan ability it won't be much fun to play) will be gone. The firing time between shock primaries is increasing, the secondary shock ball will move a little faster making the shock combo, which is about prediction and not hitscan, more effective, and the double dodge jump that makes flak and rockets less effective will be gone. Also, the shield gun will be gone, to be replaced by the good 'ol impact hammer.

Furthermore, it sounds like the armor system is returning to UT99-style, bringing back the armor vest (100 pts armor) and thigh pads (50 pts armor) along with the addition of a new anti-headshot helmet (50 pts general armor). However, I don't know if the shield belt will return. (Not only does it keep your pants up, but it also provides a shield against hits until it's sucked up 150 pts of damage.) I think the jump boots are also making a return, so you guys can learn to PBJ -- that's piston-boot-jump.

In other words, it almost sounds as though Epic is reverting UT3 back to a UT99 feel, at least for CTF.

Given all of that, do you think you'll play CTF heavily?

If you rejected UT 2004 CTF, do you think you'd like UT3 CTF based on what you know about it so far?

Well, crap. If everything you said here is true, then I don't think I'm gonna like UT3 as much as I thought I might. 4sure not CTF. Sounds like they're trying to make it a close combat/melee game. I like high speed, long distance weapons. I will probably reside in vehicles a vast majority of the time.

But to answer your question; no....I won't be playing much CTF either way it goes. It's just not my thing.

I might, I'm gonna try Warfare primarily, but if that's not up to snuff I might go DM/CTF.

If it is anything like UT99 I will probably play it. It's a good thing I have remained active in the small UT99 community that we have left. I'll be a pro from the start and look like a monkey with the impact hammer!

Oh gosh, I remember how much fun it used to be, playing regular weapons CTF on public servers with players of mixed skill levels. I, for one, am looking forward to bringing home the bacon (that means capping flags) in UT3.

Have you thought about clanning for UT3, Mac? Maybe we could form a clan composed primarily of whichever #Speedpuggers wanna play UT3.

I'll play some iCTF, not sure about vanilla CTF or vehicle CTF. Maybe late at night when the other servers are playing the equivalent of ONS-Battlefront, ONS-D$K-Gunshop, ONS-Tempura, ect...
