I am planning on writing a program that makes it easier to play D&D over the internet. It will have a dice roller, and a map grid that can be used by the players and the DM for drawing maps, and a combat system.
That is not the real reason I am posting here however. I was wondering if someone could explain to me how I could make this program accessible to multiple users. Basically, I want to know how I can allow people to connect to it using the internet.
Thanks,
Desko.

Why not just play Neverwinter Nights online and focus on making custom maps/worlds/campaigns for it? After all...it's AD&D 3rd edition. Consider heading over to:

Desko I'm with whipper I play Neverwinter Nights 2 and finishing up the first one right now thats why I have not been in game very much. I think the online tools for NW2 are awsome and if your in vent with the people your playing with or on xfire then you have the same situation. The toolset does the rolling and as DM in NW2 you set all the paramiters and encounters.

No shame, no dishonor, will run away to fight another day!

Fantasy Grounds ($) and OpenRPG (free) are similar tools.
As for connecting over the internet, presumably someone would host a server (the GM, or a third party), and everyone else connects to it. What language are you using?

Java.
I might check out that Neverwinter Nights thing...
Also, OpenRPG looks interesting. I will set it up when I get home.

Sounds like the news media was engaging in a bit of fantasy role-playing there to me.DW_Damnidge wrote:All I remember about D&D is a kid in my hometown killing a little girl as a sacrifice to his character.
As DM of a Neverwinter Nights campaign, would I be able to strike all of my players with 2d6 lightning damage if they started quoting Monty Python?

You weren't disappointed with NwN 2? I haven't played it yet, but I've heard mixed things about it. I play NwN 1 online sometimes but I tend to get bored after a week. If you're playing NwN 1 online maybe we should hook up sometime, especially if we could get a group of DW/SVA folks together.ACY wrote:Desko I'm with whipper I play Neverwinter Nights 2 and finishing up the first one right now thats why I have not been in game very much.
