I have one more problem, this time with zone info.

Mapmaking? Modeling? Discuss all that stuff that's too complicated for most mere mortals here.

I have one more problem, this time with zone info.

I want to start placing zone infos, but there isn't one single tutorial out there that explains the exact way of doing this... they only explain the easy bit, which I figured out by my self anyway; Which is, go to actors> zoneinfo, place zone info node, and then rename the zone or whatever.

Thing is, don't matter how many zoneinfo nodes I place down, when I rebuild and test the map, all areas are called the same as the first node I placed.

So only the first node counts.

I heard something about the radius area or something... how I go about to do that?

help here please.

Short answer: Don't bother with zones.

Longer answer: Zones are unnecessary unless your map is extremely detailed. They were mainly useful in the original Unreal and Unreal Tournament, as optimization was more necessary and there were no such thing as volumes. Most of the functionality that zones had is replaced by volumes in UT2004.

The reason this isn't working is because you're map is still classified as one zone. Since you can't have 10-30 zone actors to identify one zone, the editor will just take your original zone info actor's properties.

Zoning is very useful for optimization, where you can literally divide your map into segments by simply placing a zone portal between corridors and hallways. Once you've divided your map, then you may place a zone info within each division, and provide a unique location name.

But if you're dividing the map simply to be specific on location names, I would recommend placing a volume around the area, and identify the location name through the volume's properties. (Remember when overlapping volumes, that the one with the higher priority number will earn the location name for the overlapping region.)

I prefer not to discourage anyone from optimizing maps, so if you wish to speed up your frames per second in your map, you should check out this Optimization tutorial.
This tutorial will also teach you how to divide your map into multiple zones.
The difference between successful people from others is
not in the lack of strength,
not in the lack of knowledge,
but rather in the lack of will.

Yeah, the question is why do you want different zones. If you want to optimize you need to use zone portals, if you want to specify names for areas then use volumes. If you want to do both its probably best to use both zone portals and volumes, as zoning for optimization might not coincide with what different named areas might best be divided into and vice versa.

Thanks for all the answers, but it's too late to turn back now as I already placed volumes in the map areas and named them.

I guess I could delete them, but I wont, since it took me the whole day to do it for 8 different maps.
... to delete it now, it's like working a full day, then my boss tells me that he can't pay me.

You know what I'm saying?!

thanks for all the help again.
