So here it is; my first ever map from scratch and most items are just found in your Ut2004 folder... not really, has a few custom content that only insiders can know about. Other things are from maps and other mappers that made some static meshes, so I looked for appropriate things. It comes with a 'almost' secret room, and a breath-taking gameplay that takes place in a storage facility DW hired to keep hold of items that DW didn't have enough space to hold on to. :sgiggle:
I might come out with future versions and fixes so that the game play would become more outstanding.
Go to the latest post of mine for a download of the map.

Heya Anonymouse,
Well since i havent seen any screenies of your map i cant really give you any criticism's or help towards your mapping, but since you are quite new to the mapping scene my guess is you used alot of cubes and static meshes, or borrowed parts from other maps which in some cases is a dangerous move.
Since your new to it as i said u probably would have used many cubes, and many white lights and not much Trim, Since i have been a map tester for UT99 for quite a few years and we dont have the luxuries of Static Meshes allow me to point out the most useful tool in the editors arsenal. The 2D Shape Editor
Here are some screens of a UT99 Invasion arena map i am creating:
Notice how it uses pretty much no cubes or real visible shapes, they are all different shapes, this brings variety to your map so your not running through cube after cube after cube etc, Since alot of people here just wanna kill monsters you can probably get away with it on the server, and if its an easy map it will probably get voted for alot, However let me now bring you the attention of Xenomorph Facility map, It has almost no visible cubes whatsoever everything is trimmed out, and everything looks great, That map would be a great starting point to look for hints, and how to do stuff.
Now let me bring u back to my UT99 Map and it's lighting, You can see i used 3 variations of colour here, theres Bright Yellow, Bright Green, and a soft blue, These colours tend to go well with that package which is known as the Skaarj.utx package from UT99, And since we dont have many lighting arrays to choose from as you do with SunLight, Light, and many other random combinations we have to make use with what we have in the editor so we gotta just play with the lights until we get it right.
Anyways, nobody can expect you to make the most perfect map in the world in a first attempt, nor ever as the case may become, however, remember to make a map GREAT you gotta use variety and a good lighting system that isnt just boring white light all the way through like alot of maps around, what will get your map the vote is the good looks, killing stuff in a big white cube gets boring after a while.
Anyway hope i helped, and its definately worth looking at the 2D shape editor if you havent.

Thanks for the help renegade.. Now that I know this map is screwed because of all the copy-n-pastes.. I added a link for the mappers and testers.

I'm not saying copy and paste has screwed your map, however its dangerous since some mappers will hate people for nicking parts from their maps.
But hey, at least now you know how you will improve yourself in the editor, and Julian i am trying to build UT2k4 maps but it's complicated atm :P i have built something but its getting endless freaking BSP errors and texture bugs.

I'm just wondering, because of what you said, I think the servers need to wait at least a bit more. And julian, what do you care about my map :swink:

Sadly I can't because I'm enhancing the map drastically, and I wasn't expecting to do that. But I'll post when I can.

Mouse, I've downloaded it and I can't open it. It's because I don't have the files that are in the map, if you make something with custom made statics, pickups, etc. Make sure you'll add with the download, the staticmeshes you've been using. If you copy from other people, add a readme file with the name of the author in it.

Oh, I didn't know that. But how would I know what packages I used and how would I add the download directly in the map? :ssmile:
