Ok since this map is loved by new players *Easy Leveling* however practically hated by most people *Bad visual gameplay*
I Offer to totally redesign the map... keep it partially the same, just make it look a hell of a lot better.
If anyone knows the designer of this map and has contact with him could you forward this topic to him to allow him to know plans, and i wish to request permission from him to proceed with the total redevellopment, if not, i will completely re-create the map my self with my own ways.
so 2 plans of action
1: Permission from mapper = Change the map to make it look nicer and not just a boring old cube with trains coming thru walls.
or 2: Totally redesign the map in my own ways and make it look nicer but have a similar gameplay effect.
That is if anyone would like this to happen, i will keep the newbies safe area and make the map look nicer, possibly with some dangers! ;)

Option 3:
Do not keep the same gameplay, but improve the visuals a lot.
(In other words, make a completely new map, and maybe put Train somewhere in the title if you really want to, and we'll take TrainStation off the server.)

Gah. It was supposed to be under wraps until it was out but I am already doing this for Karma. My constrints though was to keep the gameplay exactly the same, it is nearly finished in fact, just a little tweaking needed. If you want to redesign something please redesign that god awful techtrain. Its a good idea but terribly done.

Can't we have both? :srofl:

What specifically is terrible? Game play? Or the visuals? Not that it couldn't use improvement, but Tech Train is different, fun, and plays well which IMO is more important than eye candy. Train Station has neither. Take out the trains and it's "This Box Was Made In 5 Minutes."
If you redo Train Station and change nothing else, could you at least take out the mines? Small boxy maps and mines don't mix. Maybe you could add a fake mine layer pickup with a trigger such that when it's run over a message taunts the player with a "mines not available" type of message.
I would suggest adding smaller rooms off to the side but then it just becomes Subway.
Here's an idea: can someone make a train map where players can ride a train and get on/off at various stations? It could be a looping train (more appealing) or a train (or two going in opposite directions) going back and forth in a straight line (not as interesting but probably easier to do). And instead of being yet another passenger train, it could even be a freight train with various types of rolling stock like box cars, flat cars, intermodal cars, grain cars, etc., all with and without cargo for variation.

Hehe. Sorry Seven, I was told to keep the gameplay identical. I have just spruced up the graphics some what. I would post some pics but I don't want to hijack Renegades thread too much :swink:
As for the make a map with stations and you can get on / off ... yes that could be done, but I feel Ant would have something to say as it would have to be quite big to hold any real length of train journey
As for TechTrain its the visuals and the wierd blocking volumes that allow you to stand in mid air, oh, and it is way too easy! I have yet to lose that map!

When The End was initially on the server, it sucked hard. Really hard. Terribleness incarnate. So one night I got sick of it and turned it into a decent looking map. (Please note: Not the version that is on the server now.) Basically just to try and show people what you could do in one night to a terrible map like The End. It still looks better than a lot of the maps on the server, just because I put a little bit of polish on it.
But I didn't change the gameplay at all. Well, guess what? It still sucked. Sure it looked better, and it at least looked moderately interesting, at the end of the day The End is still just a giant corridor that you spam down. In fact I kind of regret making that version because it kind of gave legitimacy to what's just a really bad and boring map. Same thing with Train Station - If you hate the map and think it's boring (because let's face it - it is boring and the only reason people vote it is because they want to gain experience - But maps don't have to be boring to still be relatively easy for low levels to gain XP on) then editing the map to make it look better without adding at least some gameplay value to it other than spamming mines over a wall, well you're encouraging that map. Do we really want to encourage people to play TrainStation more? Does TrainStation even deserve any attention (Case in point in this thread: Two people who could be working on other maps looking at turning a crummy one into a slightly better looking crummy one)?

Errr ok but Train Station + new graphics + 0 change in gameplay = Train Station. Why bother? :swondering:

I'm sure you'd have to compromise by having a short train, only 3-4 stations somewhat close together, etc. but I'm sure it could be done without making a huge map. If attempted, should it be an enclosed map (but that's just basically a subway, unless it's a freight train in a long tunnel) or an open air map with a skybox, terrain, above ground stations, etc.?
Incidentally, this gives me an idea I haven't seen yet and that's a theme park. There'd be room for tons of eye candy and buildings you could add to an amusement park. It could even be thought of as a theme park where the creatures in a Scary Monsters Ride/Haunted House came to life, escaped their confines, and took over the entire park.

It could definitely use some visual enhancements. And standing in mid air is possible on other maps but yeah it's odd. And finally yes it is easy but not as easy as the uber easy maps. I am surprised at the number of people that ask "How will we fight Luci?" Ummm, shoot him?!

I totally agree. What are some specific examples in your opinion? I can name lots of seldom played yet IMO fun maps which aren't hard and are way better than the plethora of over-played mine-spammed adren-heavy maps which are "voted for XP".

At least the visual-only changes will make it
pretty crummy. :srofl: And after the "new" Train Station is finished, maybe someone can "redo" Deep Violet. How about changing the violet color to purple and calling it Deep Purple? :sgiggle:

The reason for keeping it the same is the fact that people still like the map, if they didn't then it would not get voted for. Yes it is easy, yes it is a mine frenzy but, ironically, not only high levels get an opinion. The opinion was to make the map look more desirable but keep the people who still like it happy by leaving the gameplay as similar as possible. To be honest I think you should stop for a moment and think about the others who do like it. Yes they may want the 'free exp' but if you took out every map like this you would lose a portion of your player base. Besides, I had to change the gameplay slightly. The mines don't run around as much, the secret as been changed and is a lot harder to get in to (no on seemed to know there was one so that was ok to change) and if you want adren you now have to stand in the open, to stop all the adren masters camping it. So it has been changed a bit but mine spamming I am afraid is still a major feature.
