Custom Vehicles

Thanks to Gorz, we have a lot of custom vehicles in our arsenal. But there's all kinds of other custom vehicles out there which are completely unique of the UT2004 vehciles as well. I think Benfica posted a link to some in another thread. Some I can recall seeing are a motorcycle, the book in the UCMP map, helicopters, and I saw a spaceship in one map that the server choked on. Unfortunately I can't recall links at the moment.
What I'd like to do in this thread is talk about what kinds of custom vehicles you are aware of and where you think they might be appropriate. I think adding one or two custom vehicles to a map could really spice things up. How about a spaceship in Torlan :P Posting links and screenshots would probably be the best way to have a valuable discussion.

I'd like to see a Locust (hoverboard) on a map to practice with the one in UT2007, and the Balist is a pretty sweet vehicle. There are about 20 vehicles on this page. The Battle Bikes are fun but overpowering. The Helix would be fun to work in for troop transport needs.

wow, some of those look like a lot of fun.
Those boats are giving all sorts of ideas for maps. Unfortunately, my time is tied up right now.
However, some boats on ChainIsle2Beta would be interesting. Since they could only get so close, they could provide some cover fire.

I like the horse! lol. Reminds me of Oblivion, which I haven't had time to play in over a month or two....

I've got a pack I'm working on with some new vehicles, specifically the Locust and possibly a BattleBike.
The Locust default version is nuts - You can jump using it from the ground to the base towers in Torlan. I've gotten about 2/3rds of the way up the central tower as well.
Awhile ago I contacted the author (Gel) and got permission to use it. I've modified it so it's slower and the jump is not so out of control. There are still some issues that need to be fixed, particularly the collision detection.
BattleBikes - These are typically pretty crazy. One bike has a tank shell as its primary weapon, another has an ion tank blast. Their secondary weapons are high-damage, fast-moving, track-everything missles. There are also some physics issues (particularly how they seem to hover in mid-air when doing flips).
I want to do a version of this vehicle that has a sane weapon loadout and fixes some of the irritating physics issues, but the problem is that the BattleBikes files (Sounds, Meshes, Textures, etc) are quite large. In total right now the stuff I'm working on is about 7-10MB. If I did a BattleBike that pushes it up to 30+ MB.

im sure you can find some other meshes or textures for those bikes. 10 mb for a vehicle that wont be used very often is way too much.

Well, the trouble is that it's not trivial to find other meshes or textures. You're basically talking about redoing the entire motorcycle concept. I know, personally, I can soak 20MB for adding a little bit of fresh variety into the mix. I'm not sure everyone else feels that way though, so I'm hesitant to do anything with it -- People did seem to take the Lobreaker and some of the other new vehicle downloads well enough...

I wouldnt worry about textures and fancy static meshes. Look at the mini tank in minus. Sure it could be done better, but i mean who cares its about gameplay not looks.
