Ok, lately my ping to the MostInfamous server has been horrid. The Spam Vikings server hasn't been much better. It never seems to get below 130 and constantly fluctuates up to 250++ which is terrible to play TAM. My ping used to be around 70 - 80.

Here's a list of things I have done:

1)Checked for spyware/adware and viruses

2)Formatted my HD and reinstalled Winblows XP Professional and UT to be sure I was free of spyware crap

3)Tweaked settings in UT that supposedly reduce ping such as "internetconnection" setting in the user.ini file and changed some details in my settings

4)Opened all ports that UT uses on my router

5)Closed my antivirus software and firewall

6)Used pcpitstop to test download speed and its fairly constant at 3055 kilobits per second

And I seem to be getting worse. Is it the server? or my ISP? or something else?

Suggestions???

Do a trace route to the server . Could be any number of things . Go from there.

Only thing is, I'm new to trace route. Don't know how to interpret them or where to go from there. Here's a link to a screen shot. Sorry it's big since I haven't installed my other crap yet.

Hey Bean,

According to that report your big problem occurs while traversing the savvis.net interconnect. I'm not sure your cable co. will care but you could try telling them that your latency to the DW ip's has increased more than 100% in recent days and that you think it is while your packets are in savvis.net. Provice your ISP with the traceroute info (you can redirect it to a file) and see what they say.

HTH.

I think to translate what Snaggle said the hops 12-13 you can see your ping has doubled which is not good. You need to try some kinda other program that shows packet loss on the hops.even a few percentage of packet loss will really hurt your game play. I use UO trace myself. There is also ping plotter and a few others. 19 hops seem to be alot IMHO. I only get 17 hops to Germany playing a DOAC freeshared.

One thing I have been experimenting with is if you find a "bad " hop just ping that one server IP only for 5-15 mintues then connect normaly to what ever game server you play. I dunno why but I found by "flooding" the bad router I can get a better connection some how.
