Yay, I get to we-wire my outlets today! Yay!

Well guys, I'm gonna be busy for a while but hopefully not too long. Hopefully just an hour if I haven't lost all my skill in the electrician field. We got a single outlet wired with a ground but the outlets upstairs where the PCs are have no ground... Yea, I know. So I gotta continue the one downstairs by splicing some wire to it and tie it off to the old wires that lead upstairs and pull the old wire through to the upstairs replacing the it and then the second should be no problem. However, if that isn't possible, I got some glow sticks or fish wire to gimme a hand. So Bomzin, how fast you think you can get out here to help me out? I should turn off the power first right? yea, I don't think I need to either... Just playin'! Just playin'! I promise I'll come back alive.

Well since I am re-wiring a house and not a computer, yes it would be nice to have an extra hand to feed the wire from the basement while I pull on the second floor. My house has a lot of old with new wire and it is quite a mess.

Hmmm electricity yea I have a vague memory of the little incident when the wife said the power was off. I attempted to scream but all I heard was her saying ooops.

What? Did you get zapped?
Turns out we are just gonna run a whole new circuit from the basement through the access to the attic and back down to the rooms. The only thing is is the access is in a small crawl space that is all nasty so I'm gonna call an electrician to do it. I'm not going in there, plus the access is all the way on the other end of the house. It is definitely a two man job without the proper equipment so I'm leaving it to the pros. I don't know who wired this house but he needs to be executed on the spot. No trial by jury, just shot on site!

I mean, seriously... Their is like a grid of cables branching of a couple wires and then they re-merge at the other end of the basement. Cables run here and there and splices everywhere. Splice boxes litter the area just above your head. it is a mess. Why would someone do that? Why would someone do that in the basement? Looks as if someone was running an industrial plant in the basement... and then they just did a miserable patch job when they were done.
EDIT: I just moved into this house a few months ago.

Get someone who knows what there doing. Bad wiring is an accident waiting to happen and if you have a wife and kids it's better to be safe than sorry. We had our house built 4 years ago and some of the electrical work I've seen has made me scratch my head and say what the F were these guys thinking. Anything more than installing or running electric to outlets for lights, ceiling fans or cameras and I call someone that knows the the hell there doing. I'm not getting thrown across the room or glued to the live wire ever again.

Yea, I know what you mean and yes, I'm having a professional come over Wednesday to take a look and give an estimate. I just hope I don't have a stroke when he tells me the price.

Oh, lol, okay. I see it now. Screw it, I'll leave it like that, it gives it character.
It is a nice mix of new and old and stupid. I don't know what they were thinking.

Well least they put them in box's and you don't have a bunch of open splices littering the area . The biggest thing in preventing electrical fires is the box and cover . Right next to that is not to use those cheap dollar extension cords on anything that is one/standy when your not around .
As far as all those box's unless there is something wrong with them at this point it's very costly to remove them . Check the connections make sure they are good . Look for overloaded circuits in the kitchen, bath and probably for you the garage area . Then run a dedicated circuit to the computer area . Better yet if your pulling in a wire run a piece of 12/3 with G giving you 2 circuits.
Most things you plug in don't use a ground and it's simply in the wire to promote a faster trip if you cut it .
