Savages' Custom Blender Download...

I figured I would offer my own custom version of Blender(64bit and 32bit) that I always use to model what you see here. I know some people have tried Blender after hearing me speak so highly of it just to be disappointed by the lack of tools and odd controls of the basic version offered by Blender Foundations download page. It truly is lacking until you add more tools and scripts and edit your preferences, so with my version, it is all already done. Plus I added many plugins for exporting most of the popular game formats and you can also import some game objects. Their are also many other added features in my version like the preferences and color and look of the interface and much much more. I also have wizards added and even did some of my own coding to get some of the unreal features to work correctly. Remember to get the Microsoft C Redistrubution package and install it first or it will not work correctly, Also you must have Python version 2.6.2 or some of the added features and scripts that I added may not work, I will add links to both. Have fun!

Make sure to get the Python 2.6.2 Windows Installer:

Microsoft C Redistrubution (for 64bit version only):

And the Savage Version of Blender 2.49b(64bit Only, see 32bit link below):

Their is also a Blender Quick Start PDF included, I would take a look at it if you are new to modeling, it is very helpful. Also the Blender Wiki is great if you have any questions or want to learn more about using Blender and Blender in general.

I am so stoked that some of you are taking an interest in my version of Blender and I would love to know what you think of it and if you are having any troubles with some of the scripts, please let me know so I can make changes. Any other questions Blender related, please feel free to ask here and I would be more than happy to answer.

I will make updates to both versions of the Blender downloads as scripts become available and post all changes done on this thread. I hope you enjoy blendering!

I'm sorry for not thinking of all the non-64bit user out there so I put together a 32bit version with all the same goodies. The link to the 32bit version is below but don't forget to go up and grab the Python 2.6.2 or some scripts will not work correctly; However, you should not need the Microsoft C Redistrubution package. Just download the link below and the Python 2.6.2 above and you should be set.

Savages' 32bit version of Blender

32bit versions downloaded = 13

64bit versions downloaded = 30

UT3 Rig downloaded = 1

2.5 build downloaded = 1

Not all scripts have been tested in the 32bit version but I have tested most of the game related scripts but every computer acts different I suppose, please post any complications you may have here. Thanks!

If you want to test Blender and learn how to use different tools in Blender, check out my other thread on modeling and texturing an eye in Blender at the following link (Requires GIMP for texturing the iris):

I went and got Cam Studio so I can make video tutorials. I am going to be making a basic tutorial on getting Blender set up, going over the file system and some of the stuff I added, and some basic functions in Blender and the process of getting a skeletal mesh and animation into unreal. I am writing it on paper and will have it posted here within the next few days. If you would like me to cover another area of blender, let me know and I'll put more together but their are a lot of Blender tutorials on the net and I'll be covering some of those places in my tutorial as well. No need in reinventing the wheel; However, it will help me to learn if I make some video tutorials for you so I would be more than happy to go over anything that you may be stumped on. Thanks and happy blendering!

I got a little something for you to play with to keep you busy until I finish my tutorial and remember to give the "modeling an eye in Blender" a try as well. The following is a PDF tutorial for creating a custom character in Blender for UT3 and the rig.

Here is a large collection of video tutorials. Blender Basic series and Neil Hirsing's videos are very good.

The following is another technique on modeling and texturing an eye in Blender:

Here is a question I posed to all on youtube. Hopefully I get an answer but I just wanted to show you all what I'm up to and maybe one of you could push me in the right direction to get this little problem solved. I will still go over importing a static mesh but until I can figure out this little problem, I must wait to do a tutorial on importing skeletal meshes and animations. This little problem is actually what is slowing down my progress on my UT3 monsters.

EDIT: I figured it out guys and gals and static mesh, skeletal mesh, and animation tutorials will be coming shortly.

Thank you Bomzin and I will take a look. I actually figured it out though, it turns out that although Blender records location, rotation, and SCALE, of your bones, Unreal does not. Unreal records location, and rotation but not SCALE of the bones. Unreal simple records the bones center, no root, no tip, but it does import the orientation and vertex groups. However their are conflicting reports on the net but I believe I am correct in my assumption because I actually did a quick test and it worked however I must re-learn to apply constraints to the armature and use another technique to rig my armature. O' well, it is coming along slowly but surely. I will repeat the test several more times to make sure I am correct.

If anyone does an eye in Blender by following one of these tutorials, I would love to see the finish product here if you would like to share it.
